Without mentioning who or why, simply mentioning the Webster death is enough to change the atmosphere. It made every moment of Debbie’s wedding preparations feel rushed, as if she were running before a door about to close. Ronnie was the type who wanted to “keep things in check” for Debbie’s happiness: he indulged her every idea, supported her when she was confused, and tried to turn the wedding day into an anchor so Debbie would feel that life still had certain things.
