Because when loved ones are still missing, when everyone’s heart is heavy, forcing oneself to be happy only makes everything feel fake and more painful. She postponed it not because she doesn’t love the holiday, but because Julie wants to wait for the right moment to smile without forcing herself.

Despite the postponement, Horton House hasn’t abandoned its tradition. This week’s vibe is that the Horton House will be gathering in much larger numbers, a kind of reunion of long-time fans. Jack and Jennifer returned, Lucas showed up, Eli and Lani came back just in time for the holidays; just looking at them, you could see Days’ unique family energy: everyone who goes away eventually comes home, at least during Christmas.

And then the most heartwarming scene unfolded in a simple, unpretentious way: Thomas led everyone in singing Silent Night. A child holding the microphone, a young but confident voice, brought the whole house back to the family rhythm.
