The shocking opening scene: Marlena, on her way to meet EJ to intervene in the dispute between him and Johnny, heard the sound of a gunshot from afar.
She ran to the room, pushed open the door and was stunned to see EJ fall.

According to spoilers, Rachel found the gun in Kristin’s safe and overheard a conversation between EJ and Marlena, where EJ declared that he would “never let Rachel see her grandmother again.” In a panic and feeling betrayed, Rachel pulled the trigger.
