The reason: Aaron has just received news about Kev Townsend – Robert’s “prison husband”. He feels cheated, believing that Robert betrayed him in the past. A flashback is shown in between showing Aaron once visiting Robert in prison, only to discover that “someone else” has been registered as a legal visitor. At the time, he did not know that person was Kev.

In a heated confrontation, Robert sobs and admits: “I did everything to survive in prison, Aaron. I didn’t love Kev – I just wanted to survive.” But Aaron coldly replies: “I survived, but we’re dead.”

Kev stands and looks at the two, smiling bitterly. “You both think you’re the victims. But I’m the one who lost everything.” The three characters face each other in the pouring rain, creating a metaphorical scene – past, present, and truth collide violently.

According to leaks, the “culminating” episode of this arc will end with Robert walking away, while Aaron collapses in the middle of the street, crying and saying: “He didn’t just hide from you – he hid from himself.” The writers confirm that this is just the first chapter of the “Redemption Arc”, where Robert must face all his past mistakes to find a chance at forgiveness.

Since Kev’s arrival, Emmerdale has been a suffocating mess: promises, guilt, and twisted love intertwined. And with Aaron’s return, the writers seem to be saying — no past can stay buried in the Dales.
