Robert Sugden is going through his biggest shock since leaving Emmerdale.

In the upcoming episode, he receives a call with the news: Kev Townsend – his former friend and former enemy – has passed away.

The news leaves Robert in a panic, but surprisingly, shortly after, he receives a letter signed by Kev, with the only line: “I’m still here.”

Did Kev fake his death to escape punishment? Or is someone using his name to threaten Robert? A flashback appears – Robert remembers the night of the accident years ago, where he and Kev fought by the river. Not only is it a personal tragedy, it’s also a story about guilt and redemption. Robert has long tried to rebuild his life, but his past “karma” still haunts him. One detail fans have noticed: every time Robert looks in the mirror, Kev’s shadow appears in the reflection behind him – a very strong metaphorical artistic detail. The producers have confirmed that there will be a flashback scene, in which Robert is forced to return to the Dales, facing the person he thought he had lost.
