Bear Wolf used to be a kind, good, honest man – but his recent experiences have broken that person.

After being forced by Celia and Ray to bury his friend Anya’s body, Bear lives in fear and obsession.

Every night he sees his friend’s face – and the face of the person who pushed him into a dead end.

At his weakest moment, Bear makes the biggest decision: escape.

The scene where Bear decides to escape is predicted to leave viewers breathless. The episode depicts him standing in the middle of the barn, mud still on his shoes, his hands shaking because he knows that if he makes one wrong move – Ray will kill him immediately. He looks through the window – where Celia is sitting drinking, his eyes cold as ice.

Bear knows: if he doesn’t run now, he will never have a chance.

Bear’s plan isn’t perfect – it’s desperate. He stuffed a few things into his pocket: a shirt, a water bottle, a photo of Anya. Then he stealthily opened the back door of the farmhouse. The hinges creaked slightly. He stood still for a few seconds – listening for every breath. Then, he rushed out like a hunted animal.

The escape scene would have been extremely dramatic if the scriptwriter had done it right: Ray discovered – chased – Celia stood from afar watching Bear run, her eyes not afraid but… amused. Because to Celia, everyone was a chess piece on the chessboard of power.

What made viewers sympathize with Bear was that he didn’t escape because he wanted to live. He escaped because he wanted to end the spiral of guilt he was forced into. If he escaped, both Celia and Ray would collapse. If he failed… Emmerdale would have the most tragic scene of the season.
