In the chaos between Will and Megan, Daniel Barlow’s appearance is like adding a spark to a boiling pot of oil.

It all started off gently: Will asked Daniel to help him find a job, Daniel asked for Megan’s number, Megan provided it, and so a connection between the three began to form.

Daniel seemed to just want to help, but the way he initiated conversation with Megan made Will uneasy.

He began to show signs of jealousy – not obvious love jealousy, but the kind of jealousy that was territorial, the feeling that an important person was being “shared” with someone else.

Megan responded in a sweet but ambiguous way. She showed appreciation for Will, but did not hesitate to interact closely with Daniel. And she knew very well that Will was watching. It’s easy for viewers to see that Megan is taking advantage of the attention of both men – one young and admiring, the other mature and reassuring.

Daniel – from his perspective – may think he’s just helping. But in reality, he’s treading on very dangerous territory. His seeming sympathy for Megan makes Will even more insecure. And Megan, with her unstable mentality, tends to like having many people rely on her – because it makes her feel valued.

So an emotional triangle – though not yet named – is slowly taking shape. The worrying thing is that the weakest of the three is Will, and the one with the greatest potential to cause harm is Megan – because she has the ability to manipulate other people’s emotions without even realizing it.

Neither Daniel nor Will can see that Megan is building the situation in a way that benefits her the most. And viewers understand that one of the two men will have to pay the price for this involvement.

Coronation Street’s plot suggests that the more Daniel cares for Will, the more he accidentally touches forbidden territory – an area that Will wants to keep all to himself. And Megan is in the middle, instigating the conflict. When it explodes, it will be huge.
