No one knows when Maria Connor began to see Eva as an “existential threat”.

The two had a history of romantic rivalry, but now that Eva has taken control of the Rovers pub – a symbol of social power in the whole neighborhood – Maria feels the need to “take action before it’s too late”.

This week, viewers witnessed Maria begin her elaborate plan: pretending to be friendly, asking Eva about “pub renovation costs”, then secretly spreading the news that Ben bought the pub with loan shark money.

The rumor spread like wildfire.

In less than 24 hours, the whole street was talking: “Eva is back to show off, not to do business.”

The climax happened when Eva discovered a fake text message between Ben and a mysterious investor. Maria denied it, saying “someone must have hacked the phone”. But the look Eva sent back made everyone who watched it shudder.

“If you want to fight, I will go all the way,” Eva replied curtly.

In the weekend’s episode, the preview shows Maria picking up her phone, opening a video of Eva and Ben arguing in a pub — and sending it with the caption: “Is their love, or is it just an act?”
