Coronation Street Spoiler: Shona, pregnant at high risk, is rushed to the hospital; David panics as the baby shower turns into a nightmare.
On another equally tense front, Shona and David are living in a state of both hope and fear as this pregnancy is anything but “smooth.”
Initially, everything seemed normal: ultrasounds, waiting for good news – what they thought would be a glimmer of hope for the Platt family after so many hardships.
But then came the blow: the doctor discovered an abnormal mass in the fetus’s neck.
This wasn’t just vague worry; it was something that could lead to a serious medical diagnosis and extremely difficult choices no one wants to make while pregnant.

Shona tries to appear strong, as she’s the type of person who’s used to picking herself up after the worst days. But pregnancy is different from all the times she’s tried to hold on. When fear involves a child, it’s no longer just bearable; it becomes a deep-seated fear, making each passing day feel like a waiting game. David, needless to say, is not good at hiding his emotions. Instead of crying and wailing, David reacts with panic and defensiveness: wanting to control the situation but feeling powerless, wanting to be a support but feeling like he’s about to break down himself.

The climax comes when the story touches on a seemingly sweet detail: the baby shower. Someone in the family (or a friend) thought that a small party would cheer Shona up and create positive energy for the baby. But for David, it was a cruel reminder that they were “celebrating” without knowing what the baby would be like. Amidst the balloons, decorations, and congratulations, David walked in and felt suffocated. He reacted very genuinely: discomfort, frustration, then panic. Not because he didn’t love his child, but because he feared loving too much and then losing her.
