If you look at the big picture, the most worrying person in this story is not just Megan or Will – but Maggie Driscoll, the grandmother who is trying to protect her grandchild but accidentally puts Will in danger.

Maggie is afraid that Will will follow Megan to Hull, so she chooses the solution of “keeping Megan with money”.

But Maggie’s payment for Megan to become an official trainer has legitimized a relationship that was already blurred.

Maggie acts out of love, but in the wrong way.

Instead of separating Will from Megan’s influence, she brings Megan into the family. This not only gives Megan more control, but also makes Will believe that the relationship is safe and supportive.

As Megan began to appear more frequently in the Driscoll household, the audience felt something all too familiar: the pattern of an outsider gradually taking over the family, starting with help, continuing with intimacy, and finally intruding. With her unstable inner self, Megan easily turned Will’s attention into dependence. And at this point, Will no longer looked at Megan rationally.

Maggie’s cooperation with Megan made many people begin to suspect that she had something to hide in the past. It is highly likely that she had been in a similar situation – or had lost control of another relative – so now she tried to control Will by clinging to Megan. But it was this clinging that created disaster.

Coronation Street is setting a very harsh lesson: not everyone should be “invited into the house”. And once invited in, it is very difficult to push them away.

Megan began to reveal a possessive way of speaking. Will increasingly saw her as indispensable. Daniel appears as someone who can break that bond, but this only draws Megan deeper into it. The chaos in the Driscoll household will explode when Megan feels threatened – and for someone as deeply wounded as her, that reaction can be extreme.
