While fans have yet to recover from the series of twists, Corrie continues to push the Platts into a new tragedy that has left viewers unable to react.

The recently released special episode has caused a stir in the community: David and Shona – a couple who have overcome countless storms – are now facing a new mental collapse.

The episode attracted attention thanks to the parallel storytelling from two perspectives – a technique not often used in Corrie: Shona spends her day in a state of confusion and anxiety;

David lives the same day in anxiety, trying to appear calm but in fact is mentally exhausted.

The crisis-causing event?
It is news related to an important surgery, directly affecting the family’s future. This information makes Shona lose sleep, tremble, always waiting for the worst to happen. Meanwhile, David tried to act strong – even hiding his emotions – making viewers feel the “out of sync” in the way the two faced the incident.

Small scenes like Shona waking up at 3am, David staring blankly at a cold cup of tea, or the scene of them sitting in two corners of the house without saying a word to each other… are moments that Corrie did extremely well – touching deeply on the reality of couples trying to hold on to each other through the incident.

The most painful thing is not the sound of arguing, but the silence: the distance between them is growing, and the tragedy is pushing them to the boundary of “nothing to be saved without telling the truth”.
