Weatherfield has seen many punches, but the punch Abi gave Tracy this week officially made it to the top of Coronation Street’s “iconic chaos”.

And what shocked viewers the most wasn’t the punch – it was the fact that Kevin was there, watching it all from start to finish.

The story started with a seemingly normal argument.

Tracy is no pushover, and this time she threw a line straight at Abi that would make any mother go crazy: “Kevin is the only one worthy of being Alfie’s father.”

A few words but enough to make Abi – who was hurt by Jack’s neglect – lose all reason.

Without counting 1-2-3, Abi rushed forward and punched Tracy straight in the face. It wasn’t a punch “for the sake of the script”, but a punch of all the pent-up emotions, of pain, of resentment, of fear of losing her child and of loneliness that no one could understand.

But the drama didn’t stop there. As Abi gasped after the punch, she turned around and saw… Kevin standing right there. Kevin’s eyes were unclear as to whether he was disappointed, shocked or heartbroken – but one thing was for sure: their relationship would not be the same after that moment.

Tracy, after being hit, of course did not let it go. This was Tracy Barlow – someone who could start a war both verbally and behind the scenes. Fans were guessing: Will Tracy sue? Expose? Turn the tables? Or exploit this to destroy Abi in a more sinister way? Everyone knows Tracy will never be a “gentle victim”.
