While his family is being dragged down into the crypt one by one, EJ DiMera is immersed in an equally crazy plot: collaborating with Dr. Wilhelm Rolf to “call the dead back”.

Recent spoilers have emphasized that EJ’s secret scientific plan is gradually being brought to the main line, paving the way for what will explode in the week of December 8–12.

The character that EJ obsesses over and wants to bring back is almost certainly Lexie Carver – Abe’s half-sister, ex-wife, and Theo’s biological mother.

Lexie was once one of Salem’s most beautiful souls, leaving in tears when a fatal disease took her away from her family, leaving an unfillable void in Abe and Theo’s hearts.

With her DiMera background, Lexie’s death has always been a rift between two worlds: Stefano’s blood and Carver’s heart.

Previews show EJ showing Rolf a mysterious cryogenic chamber, with vague hints about “righting the wrongs of fate.” With a history of using a microchip to insert a “Stevano alter ego” into Steve’s head, turning him into Stevano, Rolf could go further: create a clone of Lexie, or “awaken” a body that has been frozen for years. Either way, EJ’s agreement to follow this path is enough to make Salem shudder.

Not only does EJ’s project stop at “saving a loved one,” it also risks opening the door for the kidnapper – most likely Peter – to take full advantage. Imagine Peter forcing EJ to activate “Lexie” in the crypt, forcing Theo to face a distorted version of his mother, both a beautiful memory and a tool of mental torture. It’s the kind of twisted drama that Days of Our Lives excels at: turning what seems like a miracle into a powerful psychological weapon.
