A day that seemed filled with happiness turned into a chilling moment in Salem when EJ DiMera appeared at Johnny and Chanel’s adoption ceremony for baby Tesoro.

While the whole village was applauding and congratulating the young couple, EJ – the powerful, cruel and calculating father – stood silently, half-smiling and saying “I am so proud of you” with a look so cold that the audience shivered.

Johnny was naive and didn’t notice, but Chanel – with her sharp intuition – felt uneasy.

She told her mother that “the look was not that of a happy father, but of someone calculating something”.

And indeed, EJ then pulled out his phone and called, saying simply: “Plan two is ready.” The short line, however, made viewers believe that behind the “congratulations” was a big conspiracy.

In the next episode, EJ was seen flipping through Johnny’s adoption documents – an action that made viewers guess that he was investigating Tesoro’s origins. What did EJ suspect? Was this child related to an incident in the DiMera family’s past? Or was EJ simply unable to bear the thought of his son “leaving control”?
