Closing this week’s series is the touching but heartbreaking story of JJ Deveraux – a young police officer who was once the pride of Salem, now on the brink of collapse.

After many bloody cases, JJ begins to lose faith in justice. The opening scene shows him sitting alone in the headquarters, staring at his police badge.

“I’ve lost too many… friends, lovers, teammates. Maybe I shouldn’t continue.”

His girlfriend – Jada Hunter – tries to stop him, but JJ doesn’t have enough strength.

He confesses that he is haunted by unsolved cases, and feels like he is the cause of many people being in danger.

In their final conversation, Jada sobs:

“If you leave, Salem will lose the last good person left.”

JJ bows his head: “I’m not a good person, Jada. I’m just tired.”

The metaphorical ending: JJ puts his badge on the table, then walks out of the headquarters into the night rain. In the distance, Jada watches, clutching a photo – the one they took on their first day working together.

The original spoiler revealed that JJ “is faced with a big decision that will change his whole life” – and he may return to a new role, outside the law, as a hero in the shadows.
