Laurel thought she was just experiencing a crush at an age when she was tired of drama, but unexpectedly fell into the trap woven with crime and manipulation by Ray and Celia.

Ray appeared at the right time: when Laurel was overwhelmed with family pressure, loneliness, and confusion about herself.

He listened, said “hit the nail on the head”, giving her the feeling of being seen and appreciated – something Laurel had not had for a long time.

Little by little, she slid from a slight wariness to trust, then got caught up in a connection she could not control.

So when he begins to have real feelings – or at least wavering – for Laurel, Celia immediately smells danger.

Celia is not jealous in the “heartbroken boss” way, but hates weakness. To her, an ideal lackey is someone who doesn’t love anyone, doesn’t get involved in relationships, and only follows orders. Laurel is an uncontrollable variable, a door Ray can run through if he decides to turn his back on the criminal world. Instead of dealing with Laurel in a straightforward way, Celia plays her specialty: sabotage from the inside, ruining people’s lives before giving the final kick.
