While Moira is in hospital in critical condition, the three most important men in her life – Cain, Aaron and Robert – are caught up in a dark chain of events.

Cain panics, tries to blame himself. Aaron tries to reassure her, while Robert still hides his secret.

Conflict erupts when Cain discovers Robert is in contact with Kev – whom Cain suspects is involved in John’s old accident.

A scene is revealed that makes the audience “hold their breath”:

Cain rushes into The Mill, grabs Robert by the neck, screams “You knew it all along, didn’t you?” – with Aaron standing in the middle, desperately trying to stop the two men he loves from destroying each other.

In the chaos, there is an explosion – the lights flash – and the scene ends in silence.

Who is injured? Who survived? No one knows.

The episode ends with Moira opening her eyes in hospital, asking weakly: “Where is Cain?”
The question left every Emmerdale viewer choking – because the answer may not be as simple as “with me anymore.”
